In such unsure times, Darran Elliott from ProSolid – a solid-surface manufacturer in Dandenong, Victoria was inspired to create a symbol of hope and spread community love. An idea came to him through one of his neighbours ‘lighting up’ his Christmas lights that had not been taken down, with the purpose of spreading cheer during social isolation. With this inspiration, the beginnings of the #PUTYOURHEARTOUT community initiative was born. Darran designed a huge heart shape made with Staron® Solid Surfaces, which he lit up and hung from his balcony to send a message of community love and positivity. An outpouring of requests from people ‘wanting their own heart’ to hang started to reach Darran. He saw this as an opportunity to do something positive for the community during these times of financial hardship and uncertainty.

He partnered with The Red Shield Appeal and decided to create hearts for people for a donation. The funds raised will to go towards The Well’s Red Shield Appeal project to renovate the community kitchen. This project will provide valuable cooking and learning skills for those who need it in the St Kilda community. Austaron Surfaces donated the Staron® Solid Surface used to create the hearts, and The Salvation Army staff worked with Darran at his factory to create the hearts.
